Transition with Anang Binesi
This week, we continue our discussion on transitions with Anishinaabe percussionist and composer Anang Binesi. We touch on relationships with classical music and classical music performance as an Indigenous person, stepping back from post-secondary music education, and their time as an artist participating in the Banff Centre Classical Indigenous Music Residency. We touch on discussion of mentorship, land connection, and what it means to study music. We end with a sound art collaboration on Binesi’s poem Lost in Silence.
